With the setting of beauty pageants and force-fed ideas of what “beauty” is considered to be, these babes are learning to value themselves as sex objects. These teachings can cause serious misjudgment on what is truly important about them and their lives. It prevents them from seeing so much other things that they have to offer and could waste away trying to fulfill these beauty ideals. Not only does it have the potential to crush their values, I believe it can cause so much more harm internally. What i mean is that when they get older, their bodies change. Their faces change. Maybe as a child they were able to fit these ideals but what if as an adult they can’t? Feelings of inadequacy might grow within them and can destroy their confidence and self esteem. It could possibly lead them to do dangerous things to themselves to fit these ideals.
Bulimia, anorexia, plastic surgery. Whatever it is, its all to change yourself and in unhealthy ways. All because of what someone told these girls what to see as beautiful. Our society is so twisted and needs to change what it teaches women and especially young girls. Pageant a main cause of any of this but it is still a contributor in it’s existence alone. So screw whoever Lil’ Miss Beautiful is, its time to switch up our values and teach our daughters to love their bodies.
